In 1958, AO developed the Flight Goggle 58, now known as the Original Pilot Sunglass (or OPS) for the U.S. Air Force. More than 45 years have passed and the AO Original Pilot Sunglasses remain the top preference of pilots due to its maximum protection, optical performance and comfort. In fact, American Optical Original Pilot Sunglass was honored to be the first ever sunglass to be brought up to the moon with the crew of the "Eagle" lunar landing in 1969. It was subsequently featured in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. American Optical Original Pilot Sunglasses are performance-tested sunglasses with classic aviator styling. AO Original Pilot Sunglass has been a favorite of US military pilots for more than 40 years.

AO original pilot sunglasses

Perfect to fly and to drive, these are my 5th pair of sunglasses from AO but not the last one.Solid metal frame and quality optics, you do not feel them when wearing a pilot helmet, I tried all sizes and colors, the black 55mm are the best.

Excellent driving glasses with great style and quality.

I do enjoy supporting American brands when possible so I could not pass up these AO aviators when I learned about them. I drive a 40 minute commute East in the morning and West in the evening so I need a good reliable daily driver pair of sunglasses. These are excellent for this purpose! Not only are they stylish with clean good looks but they are very comfortable and robust. The metal frames feel strong and the lenses are clear and provide great coverage. I opted for the all black model this time but I will be purchasing the gold frames next. I have never had a pair of glasses with the bayonet style arms on them and I was very surprised at how comfortable they are. Much nicer than the spatula type temples which can sometimes fatigue my ears after long use. I can also see the value in the bayonet style for those who wear a hat or helmet; much easier to put on and take off. All in all, I am impressed with these glasses and AO has a new customer: me!
