Field Tested: Durable

I used these glasses during a weekend trip to Lake Morena County Park in San Diego county. During the weekend, the glasses saw use in the car (evening drive with low sun) and on two nearby hikes: Three Sister's Falls and along the Pacific Crest Trail. On the whole, my experiences were positive.The UV protection is excellent, though I did not get the opportunity to test this pair at a truly high elevation. The lenses were easy to clean and the spring loaded arms made it easy to carry from the neck of my hiking shirt. The glasses rest light on the bridge of the nose, but are secure even on a challenging trail. On the whole, I recommend these glasses for outdoor use. I would not, however, recommend this model where snow and ice require wrap around protection. But that is my only concern. Otherwise, these provide nice outdoor sun protection. The product is well constructed and should last for several seasons.

Cool, Fantastic Product for the Price

Disclosure: Well, Dave from Newport Blvd contacted me cold, explained he'd read some of my reviews, and offered Newport Blvd products for review. I agreed, provided an address, and these shades showed up a few days later.Hey, I like them, but they're not my kind of thing. To be more specific, they are no longer my kind of thing. I'm wearing prescription sunglasses now. I'm 50, graying, balding and chunkier than I oughta be, so these very cool shades don't quite fit in with who I am now and the image I've been working on for the past 40 or so years. If I were a 50-year-old aircraft racer or astronaut or international man of mystery, they'd be awesome, and I'd own a pair in each color. But I'm none of those guys. On the Guy Continuum I'm well past Young N' Hip, past Mature Stud but not yet at Bitter Old Man. I've passed Mid-Life Crisis but have not yet gotten to Old Fart. I can still fully appreciate the awesome aesthetic qualities of these cool sunglasses, but have to admit that I'm not the guy who should be wearing them. But, 32-odd years ago, when I was rocking high school in St. Louis at the end of the 70s, diggin' on Ted Nugent and saving money to buy my own '78 Charger, these would have made me.My 17-year-old daughter loves these, and wants them. My 15-year-old son loves these, and wants them. And my magnificent wife looks so hot in these that it makes my mouth water, although she admits--too readily, sadly--that she's also past the point where wearing these glasses is right for her.The blue tinge of the mirroring is very cool. It's different than the more currently typical orangey-tinge that most have these days. That makes them stand out, and that's cool. And there's a little bit of purple in there, a little bit of green. That suggests coolness, water, serenity, etc. All of this fits just right with the silver frame; gold would not work well with this shade color.Yes, I did try them on, and they fit well. Wife and kids also reported that they fit well, with no tweaking needed of the nosepieces or the temples. They fit a little tight, as should a pair of aviator shades. They did not scrape or rub on my cheeks (same for wife and kids). The frame is a bit stiff, but not completely unyielding. They came out of the box symmetrical and in good shape, indicating they are relatively well made, and shipped/stored in a responsible manner. Usually for bargain shades the level of quality is not nearly as good as we found with this pair of shades.The glasses are made in China, but close inspection of the product revealed no flaws (which I admit I expected). No obvious glue marks or shoddy construction. The lenses' and frame's finishes are uniform throughout. There are small spring-loaded pull-back hinges at the temples for a bit of over-extension. They are not heavy-duty ones like you'd find on ordinary glasses, but they work well, and provide a modicum of additional protection for the workout these frames likely will get.And all of this for approximately $4 per pair? Really? That's an amazing price for this product.Bottom line: cool glasses for cool people, at an astonishingly low price. I'd like to wear them, but those days for me are over. But my hip, young-people kids dig them thoroughly, which make them a hit. We've got only one pair now, but likely are going to have to buy some more.

Surprisingly good value

These aviator sunglasses offered by Newport Blvd are a surprisingly good value. When I received my pair, I examined them thoroughly and was impressed with their solid construction and durability. I was pleased to see that they fit comfortably straight out of the box and were resistant to twisting, squishing, and most other forms of sunglasses abuse. I was immediately able to determine that they were too dark for me, although I think they would be perfect for extended use on a very bright day. Putting these sunglasses on was like a trip down memory lane for me, although since I am now in my late 40's, I just don't think this style is for me any longer. I passed these along to my 14 year old son, who was very excited to get them.I must admit that when I came to this page in order to review these glasses, I was quite shocked at the price. I fully expected these to be expensive and couldn't quite believe the low price! This is a great value, especially if you have young people in your house that are into all things retro. These glasses are an enthusiastic recommend for anyone looking for some cool shades, or maybe just a little dash of cool.*Please note that I received this item free of charge in exchange for a fair and honest review.
